  DEPARTMENT OF RADIOTHERAPY AND ONCOLOGY
                         
            The Department of Radiation Oncology is an upcoming department in Dharmapuri Medical College and hospital rendering essential services to the needy cancer patients in Dhamapuri and the adjoining areas like Hosur, Krishnagiri and Tirupattur .The Radiation oncology Department is functioning as the Cancer Department since July 2011.
              
On an average the department serves about 100 cancer patients per month. The department works in co-ordination with other departments like Surgery , Gynaecology  ,ENT and Thoracic Medicine Departments. Opinions regarding cancer patients, initial investigations like biopsy, Staging workup, Metastatic workup is done and the best treatment policy is taken.
           
TEN BEDS are available for In-Patient services .
           
Patient education regarding the stage of the disease, its progression, treatment options available and there outcome and follow-up is explained in detail to the patient and the attenders.  Cancer screening of the relatives is also suggested. Counselling Services to the patients and attenders are provided. Screening  for early cancer detection  is  being carried out.

The Department is Authorised to issue Certificates under CHIEF MINISTER UZHAVAR PATHUKAPPU THITTAM-2011.

The Dept. Of Radio Therapy in GDMCH is an upcoming department . Procurement of Radiotherapy units like LINAC ,HDR Brachyherapy    proposals are in the preliminary stages. Presently chemotherapy ,Palliative care and supportive care are being offered to cancer patients in the In-Patient department in the form of NEO-ADJUVANT, ADJUVANT and PALLIATIVE CHEMOTHERAPY.The patients are referred to Government Cancer centres for Radiotherapy treatment as and when needed.
