DEPARTMENT OF PATHOLOGY
 
This fascinating branch of medicine is a bridging discipline between the clinical and non clinical subjects opened the account in GDMC on august 2008.
 
The Dept. of pathology is actively involved in training and teaching undergraduate students of medicine. The teaching strategy comprises of comprehensive coverage of the curriculum through lectures, seminars and CMEs.
 
The Dept. of pathology is actively engaged in diagnostic work that caters primarily to the GDMCH and secondarily to Taluk hospitals and PHCs of adjacent localities.  The department offers comprehensive state of art services in histopathology, cytopathology,  clinical pathology and hematology.
 
The histopathology section receives around 650 surgical specimens per annum and the cytology/FNAC section receives around 750 specimens per annum. The clinical pathology section located in the central laboratory  is a 24 hour facility.  The department has a state of art museum with system- wise arrangement of specimens.
 
Faculties of the department is engaged in teaching, diagnostic work and pursuing Thesis / Research topics of individual interest, which is supported and encouraged by the department.
 
The Deptartment of pathology, GDMC, Department. of pathology, GMKMC salem & the  Medical Education Unit with guidance from The Tamilnadu Dr.MGR Medical university conducted a CME on ‘Anemia-Pathologists perspective’ which has been accredited by the centre for CME accreditation.
